Piper Haqim What a ride. Finally listened to it this morning and I can’t put it down. There’s so much of all the elements that make a great black metal band here and Krigsgrav take it to the bank in a heartbeat. So much zeal and fire! Absolutely blistering melodies. Favorite track: In Seas of Perdition.

Colin M. Melodic, atmospheric, and emotive. Just a killer blackened plate of heavy from start to finish. Favorite track: Alone With the Setting Sun.

Luke I found this album while having a scroll through the "death doom" tag – the weather being miserable and all. I found this. And it isn't that. But what it is is a very engaging piece of blackened melodeath with a wonderfully expansive and interesting character. The description says this album was a counterpoint to the previous release which is more straightforwardly heavy. My first impressions of comparing the two are that that's true. This one feels much bigger and more exciting.

about

"9/10" - Decibel Magazine, issue #226

"Every once in awhile, an album captures your attention and immediately convinces you of its vitality and importance. And while it may sound like hyperbole, I can say with confidence that Krigsgrav's Fires In The Fall is one of the best atmospheric black metal albums you will hear this year. In fact, it's one of the best ones I've heard in the last five years." - Metal Injection

The sky darkens. The wildfires roar. A new album from Krigsgrav emerges from the smoke. Wise Blood welcomes the Texan black metal trio back to the coven to release their new masterpiece of eternally doomed black metal — Fires in the Fall.

Formed in 2004, Krigsgrav approaches two decades as a project co-created by D. Sikora. After releasing The Sundering with Wise Blood in 2021, the members barely breathed before crafting the record’s successor. The resulting songwriting sessions expanded on Krigsgrav’s foundation of brooding black metal and melodic death/doom.

“We wrote Fires in the Fall almost immediately after we completed writing The Sundering, so it almost feels like a double album, but they are very different,” shares J. Coleman. “We intentionally approached writing Fires in the Fall with the idea that it would be more atmospheric, and we would let the music breathe a bit more. That’s why the songs have more of a tempo change than those on The Sundering. With Fires, we wanted everything to be grandiose and bigger, but really emphasize giving each song a haunting feel.”

Krigsgrav incinerate the genre boundaries between downcast doom and razor-riffed black metal. Fire in the Fall appeals to the autumnal heart beating within fans of Agalloch, Mother of Graves, and My Dying Bride alike. Fires in the Fall rages as furiously as anything in Krigsgrav’s stellar discography. Named after a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson, it’s a record that illuminates beauty within the world’s darkest shadows.

“In my interpretation, the poem represents the magic in the changing of seasons from Summer to Fall,” Coleman offers. “There is an intangible mystique in the air. It feels like there is something different coming, almost menacing. Taking that basic idea then considered how there are celebrations of Pagan traditions (Samhain/Yule) that were reinterpreted into modern Christian holidays. It seems like we as humans have always found mysticism in those autumn/winter times. “As we are all heavily inspired during those times of year as well, we wanted to create an album with songs that gave off that similar feeling.”

Fires in the Fall will blaze into the world on June 23rd, 2023. Wise Blood Records will release Vinyl, CD, and Cassette formats featuring stunning artwork by Cameron Hinojosa. The CD and Digital versions contain the bonus track "When I'm Gone, Let the Wolves Come."
